Oscar Response 2009
I will only tackle the big 6 here (I might tackle more on nealtucker.org):
AWARD – WINNER - MY PICK
Best Picture – Hypedog Millionaire – Anything But (I really wanted Ben Button.)
Best Director – Hypedog Millionaire - Anything But (Ben Button or Milk would have appeased me.)
Best Actor – Penn – Penn
Best Actress – Winslet – Winslet
Supp. Actor – Ledger – Ledger
Supp. Actress – Cruz – Henson (Robbed. Cruz should be arrested for…for that.)
Here’s a link to all the winners.
I was okay with Hypedog winning the Best Director award. I wanted it to win cinematography and the music stuff. But yeah, best picture was complete overkill. I would have preferred any of the other four.
Go Sean Penn and Kate Winslet though. Those were spot on.
Also, I was surprised when Penelope Cruz won her category, although I haven’t seen the movie. My money was on either Viola Davis or Taraji Henson.
I have to stand up for Penelope here. I love it when any Woody film wins something, and her performance in it was subtly brilliant, so I am glad she won.
allison: I hear what you’re saying about Best Director, but I just wanted anyone but them to win. It wasn’t the best directed movie this year. It just wasn’t, and it makes me so angry that it won as much as it did.
David: She was good, but Henson was so much better, in my opinion. Cruz did a good job in that film, and I was definitely impressed at times, but I thought that most of the movie she was very one-, or at best, two-dimensional. But as we know, preference plays a part in these things too.
